Emergency Preparedness
Skagit Valley College maintains its All Hands Emergency Response Plan that provides information, and actions to minimize the negative impact of an emergency on students, employees, visitors, and facilities. We recognize that the key in any emergency situation is quick and accurate communication to all concerned. The following methods are available to notify all SVC staff, students, and visitors of emergency or unusual situations:
Emergency Notifications
In the event of an emergency, the College will launch emergency notifications that will include RAVE (text, voice, and email), SVC Website, Facebook, and Twitter. Emergency speakers on the Mount Vernon and Whidbey Island campuses may deliver audible messages that will indicate the emergency and what action is expected or required. The emergency speakers will most likely be used to announce evacuations, lockdowns or shelter-in-place actions for buildings or campuses.
Suspended Operations
In the event of a delay or closure of a campus due to an emergency or weather-related condition, the following methods may be used to provide timely information to all:
For weather-related delays or closures:
Day Classes: Every effort will be made to state closures & delays of day classes by 5:30 am.
Evening Classes: The decision to close evening classes will be made by 3 pm.
In addition, a voice message will be placed on the following campus phone numbers:
Mount Vernon Campus: 360.416.7600
Whidbey Island Campus: 360.675.6656
Delayed opening or closure messages will also be posted on the homepage.
Text/Email Alerts
RAVE Alert is Skagit Valley College’s official emergency notification system used to communicate with students and employees during campus emergencies. Students and staff with SVC-issued email addresses are automatically enrolled and will receive notifications to their college emails. You may also expand this service to include voicemail, text, personal emails, or family-member emails by signing up for those additional services for free by clicking the button below:
