High School Dual Credit Programs at Skagit Valley College

If you are a high school student, and are motivated to accelerate your educational and career opportunities, Skagit Valley College is the place to be. Programs like Running Start, College in the High School and CTE Dual Credit Career Pathways will help you get the credits to be ahead of the game once you graduate! You can also save money by earning high school and college credits at the same time.


Running Start

Running Start is a collaborative, state supported program offered by Skagit Valley College and area public high schools. The program allows qualified juniors and seniors to enroll in college courses for high school and college credit.

College in the High School

College in the High School (CHS) is a concurrent enrollment program which allows high school students to earn college credit for classes they are already taking at the high school. Qualified sophomores through seniors may register for college credit in select, pre-approved courses offered at their high school, taught by high school teachers who are also considered adjunct faculty at SVC.

CTE Dual Credit

CTE Dual credit is geared towards preparing students to go into Technical Fields. Aligned with courses required in the Professional Technical degrees here at SVC, Tech Prep approved courses can give eligible freshmen-seniors a leg up in their pursuit of a technical degree!

Open Doors

The Open Doors program is for 16-21 year old students, who have dropped out of high school or are at risk of dropping out of high school. We offer academic and personal support for students to complete their high school diploma. Students have the opportunity to prepare for their GED® test and/or earn dual credit (high school and college credit). This program is free for students who meet eligibility requirements.

GED® Testing

The GED® is a high school equivalency test consisting of four subjects: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies. Skagit Valley College is a GED® testing site and provides test preparation courses for those who would benefit from additional study in one or more subject areas. Each GED® test is $30 and there are discounts for retesting. Schedule to take all four subject tests in one day or over several testing days.
