Cardinal Career Scholars


Cardinal Career Scholars is a federal grant program that provides job skills instruction, educational opportunities, and individualized employment services for new Skagit Valley College students who qualify and wish to earn a certificate. In addition, the Cardinal Career Scholars provides funds for tuition, books, transportation, and more! The Cardinal Career Scholars program supports the following certificate programs:

 

Eligibility Requirements


  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Be between ages 16-24 years old
  • Reside in Skagit, Whatcom, island, Snohomish or San Juan counties
  • Qualify as low income
  • Pursue a certificate in one of SVC’s high-demand, high-wage programs

Application Submission Method


After the application is complete, it can be submitted via email at Workforcegrants@skagit.edu. Please submit any supporting documentation (listed on the application) along with your application.

To Get Started at SVC


1. Apply for Admissions

Submit an Admission Application online at the Washington State Community & Technical College Web Admissions Center (Be sure to select Skagit Valley College after creating an account). Please note that applications will take up to 10 business days to process.

2. Apply to Cardinal Career Scholars

Download and fill out the PDF application. After the application is complete, it can be submitted via email at Workforcegrants@skagit.edu. Please submit any supporting documentation (listed on the application) along with your application. Your CCS Navigator will contact you if any further documentation is needed.

 

3. Apply for Financial Aid

During remote operations, Financial Aid Staff are available by phone appointment to assist with your application. Please call 360.416.7666 to request assistance.

4. Take the Math and English Placement Test

To determine your timeline here at SVC, your writing, reading, and mathematics skills will be assessed. There may be more than one way you can be placed into courses; review your options below.

5. Meet with your Navigator to Register for Classes

Once you have determined your course placement, you will meet with your CCS Navigator for Cardinal Take-Off, when you will learn more about Skagit Valley College and register for your classes.
